In a fight between a pen and the pen tool (bear with me here) who would win? Well it’d be the pen. Its faster, more agile and less predictable.

Smashing Author Contest: Results
The results are out for the Smashing Author Contest. I didn’t win the MacBook Air, but well done to R. Christie for his article Top 10 CSS Table Designs. He was a worthy winner.
I was however listed as a finalist which is great. And Smashing Magazine are going to send me something in the post to say thanks. Nice one!
As a result I can publish my other article here that didn’t get published on Smashing Magazine.

My article in Smashing Magazine
As part of a competition Smashing Magazine were doing I wrote a couple of articles for them. The competition winner ends up with a MacBook Air. Nice one. And a couple of days ago one of my articles was published.
Take a look at my article about using Illustrator instead of Photoshop for web design. Its had mixed feedback and didn’t score particularly well on the online poll. But that’s OK – its great to get something published by Smashing Magazine. And I might send them some more articles in the future with the feedback I’ve received.
There’s also a chance my other article could be published on the site as well. This might happen in the next couple of weeks. Although I think its unlikely to be published, I think it might have been too short. Well, we’ll see.

Kicking off my new blog
Hello there! Well this is my new blog. I plan to get a few articles on here about design, books, and other bits and bobs. Basically it’ll be a little collection of stuff mixed together to get a nice shade of brown. Hence ‘The brown blog’.
